This fall Edisto Habitat for Humanity will begin work on its second house in Santee. The house will be located on Bonner Avenue on property donated to Habitat through Santee Presbyterian Church by Bill Clark. Harry Bozardt will be heading up the building crews along with regular HFH construction volunteers. Jean is working with the Habitat's volunteers for each Saturday workday. Hope Women of ELCA will provide lunch for the work crew one Saturday. The focus for Saturday work is:
Volunteers will work every other Saturday. Between volunteer Saturdays, there will be a mid-week crew working and contracted work will be completed. Habitat volunteers do not have to be experienced builders, just willing workers. On each Saturday, there are experienced crew leaders working with volunteers to ensure that each portion of the work is done. Volunteers are welcome. If you would like to help, it is important to call and be put on the schedule. The mission of Edisto Habitat for Humanity is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness in the Orangeburg area, and to make decent housing a matter of conscience in the community. Partner families are selected based on need, willingness to partner with Habitat, and ability to pay for the homes. Habitat homes are not given to families but are sold to families who pay monthly payments on a 25 year, interest free mortgage. The families also give hundreds of hours of their time helping build their home and homes for others. Watch for more details and a starting date!
